The World Learning Serbia field office implements three Capacity Building projects under the FORECAST contract for USAID: Participant Training, the FORECAST Exchange Program, and Community Connections.

- With Participant Training, we assist USAID and USAID implementers in US-bound, Third Country, and In-Country training processing and recording in USAID’s training database. Since 2006, we have assisted in the processing of 199 trainings for a total of 4415 participants.

- The FORECAST Exchange program sends eligible Serbian and Montenegrin undergraduate university students for one year to a U.S. university. Since 2007, 76 students have attended 19 different U.S. universities and 36 are currently in the United States at 17 different universities. Another 48 students will be recruited in the fall of 2009 for the 2010-2011 academic year. In addition to their academic schedule, students live in dormitories, get involved in campus life, and do community service to better understand American culture.

- The Community Connections program began in Serbia in 2008 and has already sent a total of 58 Serbian professionals in six different themes (village and rural tourism, youth and sports, youth and employment, agricultural coops and associations, marketing, and municipal economic development) for 3 weeks on a homestay-based, professional development and cultural exchange program in 6 different American host communities. Sixty more will go in 2009-2010 on 6 new themes (waste management and recycling, conflict of interest laws, corporate social responsibility, establishing internships, women’s health, and patient support and hospice care).
